Gender Equity in Islam

The Principle Of Love & Desire- Ibn Taymiyyah

The Principle of Love and Desire is one of Ibn Taymiyyah’s many important works on ‘aqīdah. In it, he explains how love is the basis of every movement that occurs in the universe and every action of Bani Ādam. He explains that love necessitates hate for the things that oppose what one loves, and that this love and hate is the foundation of Islām, tawḥīd, and īmān. He also discusses the many sects that strayed from Allāh’s straight path due to their misunderstanding of this fundamental principle. The following are excerpts from the text: “The basis of īmān (faith) is loving for Allāh’s sake and hating for Allāh’s sake, so the one who loves for Allāh, hates for Allāh, gives for Allāh, and withholds for Allāh, has completed his īmān.

Controversial Questions about Islam and Comments- Dr. Saeed Ismaeel Sieny

All my thanks are due to Allah who enabled me to write this book, and may peace be upon all messengers of Allah. Among the common mistakes is that some people criticize the Divine law depending, only on the limited mental abilities of the humans in sensing things and comprehending them. Our means of hearing, seeing, smelling are so limited. Even with the use of technological extensions we are still short of recognizing countless things that we live with or among.

Therefore, it is necessary to make use of two kinds of methods of authentication: textual and logical. The textual method depends primarily on the authenticity of the chains of narrators. In the case of the Holy Quraan and the Prophetic Traditions, the chain begins from the Prophet (pbuh) down to the person who put it in writing. Meanwhile, the logical methodology depends primarily on our human senses and reasoning faculty.

When the information concerned is related to the Divine Will and commands, there is no alternative to the textual methodology. This is so because our human comprehension and reasoning fall short of passing judgment on Divine knowledge. For example, by reviewing the slow and tedious development of human discovery of the laws of nature that have existed since the creation of the universe, we will realize how limited our knowledge is. There are still endless things to be discovered by our limited tools and resources.

Still among the other common mistakes is criticizing a part of a system neglecting the other parts. This mistake becomes more serious when it concerns the Divine law.

The Biography of Umar b. Abd Al-Aziz— Dr. Ali Muhammad As-Sallabi

This book describes, among other things, the principles-based upon which ‘Umar ibn Abd Al-Aziz governed the Muslims during his caliphate: among those principles were mutual consultation, justice, equality among people, and honoring of freedoms.

With the turn of every page, the reader will come to appreciate the fact that ‘Umar was exceptional in his Faith, distinguished in his knowledge, profoundly wise in his thinking, remarkable in his eloquence, noble in his manners and great in the contribution he made to this Nation.

English readers have long been deprived of the life story of this outstanding Islamic hero and exemplar. While there are some short and scattered accounts about his general life, this is the first book to deal specifically with ‘Umar bin ‘Abd al-Aziz’s reforms, which is surprising given that he has been attributed the title of Mujaddid (Reformer; Reviver) within Islamic scholarship, in great detail.

About The Book This is the highly beneficial two volume work in explanation of the famous works by Imam al-Barbahari (d.329h) by the esteemed & noble Shaykh, Dr Saalih al- Fawzan. Its importance can be seen by virtue of its being compiled in the early times; as it is one of the books of the earliest Salaf – those who lived in the same period with the great Imams, acquired knowledge from them and reported their pure Aqidah(creed) About The Author Imaam Al-Barbahaaree, rahimahullaah was a formidable and imposing Imaam of the 4th centuty Hijri who spoke out with the truth and called to the Sunnah and to the following of narrations. These were attended by many of the scholars of hadeeth and fiqh. Provisions of the Afterlife Which Lie Within Prophetic Guidance— Ibn Qayyim

Written originally by Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyyah is one of the important resources of knowledge for those who seek to know the Seerah of their Prophet (P.B.U.H) as well as the Fiqh learned from it. This is a book that is unique in that it explains the Sunnah through the Seerah and the Seerah through the Sunnah. It is a profound classic work containing thousands of pages written by Imam ibn al-Qayyam while on the Hajj journey, Pilgrimage, from Damascus to Makkah. Despite its being written from memory, the several thousand incidents, Hadiths, Ayat (verses of the Quran), Fiqh benefits, as well as names of the companions associated with them, were remarkably close to the truth with marginal errors. However, those who know the status, level of knowledge ad Ta’hqiq that Imam ibn al-Qayyim had will not be surprised to know this fact. Still, it is amazing how Ibn Al-Qayyim was able to write this vast volume while traveling to Hajj (Pilgrimage), especially since he was away from the resources of knowledge and was enduring the hardships of travel. It is a blessing from Allah (S.A.T) that it was possible for him to do so. Note: As with Many English Translations this work appears to be slightly abridged but it seems to cover most of the subjects Note: With the Lack of English works covering Hanbali Fiqh, This Books would be the nearest alternative. Although not Specifically Fiqh Book, Ibn Qayyim’s views which are based on Hanbali Fiqh are quoted throughout.

The meanings of the Noble Quran with explanatory notes— Muhammad Taqi Usmani

About The Book

A new English translation of the meanings of the Qur’an by one of the most eminent scholars of our time, Mufti Muhammad Taqi ‘Uthmani.

Mufti Muhammad Taqi ‘Uthmani had previously supervised the English translation of Ma’ariful Qur’an. But this translation and brief explanatory notes have been rewritten entirely.

None of the popular English translations of the Qur’an were done by a scholar in traditional Islamic sciences. Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, a renowned Islamic scholar who has been involved in studying and teaching Islamic sciences for more than half a century, has now filled this void.

A brief introduction of each surah has been added wherever necessary. The respected author has also added explanatory notes to facilitate understanding of the text for the common reader.

The text is in a 3 colour format on quality paper. Produced in a beautiful binding.

Human Rights in Islam— Jamaal Zarabozo

About The Book

Many scholars are quick to point out that human rights has become a, if not the, dominant theme of the world today. For example, Ann Kent writes in Between Freedom and Subsistence: China and Human Rights, “The problem of human rights lies at the heart of modern political discourse,”Some argue that even those countries which are not completely enamored by the human rights concepts go out of their way to demonstrate that their actions do not violate human rights. Indeed, who could possibly be against a concept entitled human rights.”?

With respect to Islam in particular, Khalid Abou El Fadhl wrote; “Of all the moral challenges confronting Islam in the modern age, the problem of human rights is the most formidable.”Undoubtedly, Muslim countries, organizations, scholars and individuals feel the necessity of explaining exactly where they stand on the question of human rights. Actually, the situation has gone even beyond that to one of apparent acceptance of the concept as a whole. When many Muslims speak about political issues, such as the Middle East conflict, they speak about it in terms of human rights. In fact, many times in intra-Muslim political debates centering about rights, it is the human rights paradigm that often resonates with the audience regardless of who that audience may be.

However, in this authors view, a number of important questions have gone relatively unanswered. These questions include: Is the human rights doctrine deserving of the amount of respect and admiration that it has received? What, in detail, should be a Muslim’s attitude toward the concept of human rights and the contemporary human rights paradigm in particular? Just as importantly, what is the human rights doctrine’s attitude toward Islam? For example, does a Muslim truly have the right to practice his religion within the framework of contemporary human rights thought?

Appeasing Thoughts— Sh. Salih al-Munajjid

Good morals are one of the attributes of the prophets (peace be upon them all) and the righteous people. With morals, a person gains high rank and status. Good manners foster mutual love and harmony and bad manners produce hatred and envy. The Prophet (peace be upon him) urged us to have good manners and to hold onto them, combining them with piety.

Soothing broken souls (Nafs) and appeasing the thoughts of people in tribulation is one of the greatest causes of intimacy and love among Muslims.

It is a great Islamic etiquette and is only acquired by noble-minded people. It is also a great form of worship.

Explanation of the Nullifiers of Islam

Introduction by Abdulaziz Addwesh

All praises and thanks are due to Allah, who has guided us to Islam, and we could not have found guidance to the Right Path were it not that Allah has guided us. And Peace and Blessings be upon the Last among the Messengers and Prophets who has said:
“I have left you on the White (Clear Path), wherein the night is like the day. None will mislead its way (the clear Path) after me except he who is losing”. The greatest favor Allah has bestowed on us is the religion of Islam, so the Muslim must praise Allah (G) for it and learn how to guard it. Also, the Muslim must follow in the footsteps of the Companions of the Prophet and learn the actions that may lead him to lose his faith.

Hudhaifa Bin Al-Yaman narrated:
“The people used to ask Allah’s Messenger about good, but I used to ask him about evil fearing that it might overtake me”.

My brothers in Islam, here I present to you a brief explanation of Nawaaqid al-Islam (Nullifiers of Islam) written by Imam Muhammad Bin Abdul-Wahhab. It has been collected from the words of great scholars in particular, Shaykh Abdullah As-Sa’ad and Shaykh Suliman Al-Olowan, so that you could learn them and avoid falling into kufr (Infidelity) after Allah has saved you from it.

The Concise Manual of Marriage — al-Uthaymeen

A short yet concise manual on the legal rulings of marriage authored by one of the beacons of light in his time, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen, with comments from some of the Scholars of Islaam, past and present.

The Definition of Marriage: After providing the linguistic meaning of marriage, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen stated that the technical, religious meaning and purpose of marriage is: “The conclusion of a contract of marriage between a man and a women, with each of the two desiring to enjoy and take pleasure in one another, to establish a righteous family, and to create a safe and sound society.

From the Wisdom of Marriage:

1) Preservation and protection of both mates. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “O party of young men! Whoever among you has the ability to get married, then let him marry for surely it will be a means of lowering the gaze and protecting the private parts.”
2) Protection of the society from evil and the disintegration of [good] character, for without marriage, vices or despicable acts would spread amongst men and women.
3) The fulfillment of pleasure of one mate with the other, concerning what is mandated for him of rights and sexual intercourse. Since the man is responsible for the woman, he takes care of the maintenance of food, drink, housing and clothing with what is beneficial. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Upon you is their provisions and clothing from what is beneficial.” And the woman is also responsible for establishing for the man, that which is required of her in the home of supervision and correction. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The woman is a shepherd in her home and she will be questioned concerning her flock.”
4) Perfection of relations between families and tribes. For how many times do we see two distant families that do not know each other?”

The new edition includes a second appendix containing advice for the newlyweds.

Strategies of Prophet Muhammad— Omar Khayyam Sheikh

Muhammad’s (Peace Be Upon Him) life is a rewarding subject for any sophisticated, intelligent and curious mind because of the impact he has had on world history. Not only did he change the world-view of a society, he practically moulded a nation out of a disparate group of warring tribes such that today, after 1400 years, more than 1.6 billion Muslims now live all over the world and try to follow in his foot-steps in their daily routines. Many demographers calculate that Islam will become’s the world’s largest religion by 2050. This amazing growth trajectory owes a great deal to the strategies pursued by him.

Ibn Taymiyyah Expounds on Islam— Selected Writings of Ibn Taymiyyah on Islamic Faith, Life and Society

For various reasons the West has not been able to appreciate Ibn Taymiyyah’s place in Islam. His criticism of Ash’ari Kalam, Greek logic and philosophy, monistic Sufism, Shi’i doctrines, and Christian faith have proved great obstacles to appreciating his contribution. His way of writing has also been to an extent responsible. Most of his writings are short or long responsa (fatawa) to particular questions, often recurring, put to him by different men at different times, rather than planned, systematic works on particular subjects. This makes the appreciation of his contribution somewhat difficult. Henri Laoust in France was the first to take serious notice of him. Since the publication of his Essay on the Social and Political Doctrines of Ibn Taymiyyah (1939), a few articles and books have appeared on Ibn Taymiyyah’s thought, but they are far from giving any clear idea of his overall contribution to Islam, even less of assessing his role in its revival and renewal (tajdid). In fact, there has been little understanding of the concept of tajdid in Islam. This volume consists of selections from various writings of Ibn Taymiyyah included in Majmu’ Fatawa Shaykh Al Islam (37 volumes) as well as some of his major works such as Minhaj as Sunnah An Nabawiyyah, Dar Ta’arud al Aql wa-An Naql, kitab Ar Rad alaa Mantaqayyin, Al-Istiqamah, and Iqtida As Sirat Al Mustaqeem. These selections will present a clearer and complete view of Ibn Taymiyyah’s concept of Islamic faith , life and society. They are primarily intended to highlight his positive position and mention his criticisms and refutations of other positions only to the extent needed.

Heartfelt Advice to a Friend by Ibn Qayyim

In this short yet substantial tract of ibn al-Qayyim, he pens a message of heartfelt advice and appreciation to a friend of his by the name of ‘Alā’ Al-Dīn; invoking Allāh’s Kindness, Guidance and Blessing upon him. Within this translation of ‘Risalatu ibn al-Qayyim ila’ Ahadi Ikhwāwanihi’, the author explain the finer points of having a need in seeking Allāh’s Guidance in all of our affairs and the means to persist upon the Straight Path. The risalah includes six weighty elements by which a Muslim can achieve happiness and pleasure; and through which righteousness can be perfected. The knowledge-based content of the book reflects ibn al-Qayyim’s attention to detail, while explaining it in an easy to understand manners, it’s modeled as sincere advice to his friend that will of course, be of wider benefit to all who read it IN SHA ALLAH. He commented that, “if you come to know what I have explained (in this message), you will then know that the ultimate pleasure, perfect delight and rejoice, grace and good life are found only in knowing Allāh, worshipping Him alone, feeling comfort and affability with Him, longing to meet Him, and devoting the heart and endeavors for Him.

Explanation of Important Lessons- Ibn Baz

Indeed, all praise is for Allah, we praise Him, repent to Him, and seek His forgiveness and help. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own selves and our wicked deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can lead astray; and whomsoever Allah leaves astray, none can guide. And I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone, and He has no partner; and I bear witness that our Prophet Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. May Allah, send peace and blessings upon him, his family, and his Companions until the Day of judgment. Indeed Allah Almighty has protected this religion and raised its status among the nations, sending to the world the final Messenger, Muhammad , and with him the final and most complete religion – as Allah Almighty says: This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. Allah Almighty has made the scholars inheritors of the Prophets; they explain to the people their religious duties and they enlighten them so that their worship of Allah Almighty is based on knowledge and insight. One such scholar, whom the Muslims recently lost, is the noble Shaikh and Imam, ‘Abdul-‘Aziz bin ‘Abdullah bin Baz – may Allah Almighty have mercy on him, for he spent his life in knowledge, in teaching, in passing scholarly judgments and rulings. But over and above his knowledge, he was a man who was righteous and pious; he sought little from this world, and his manners were truly noble. From the many works in which the Shaikh served the different branches of Islamic knowledge – ‘Aqidah, Fiqh, Hadith, Da’wah, and so on – is this very important work, “Important Lessons For Every Muslim”, a book that is much needed at the present time because so many Muslims lack a grasp on the fundamentals of the religion, in terms of belief, worship, and manners. Seeking reward, seeking to benefit others, and seeking to apply the Hadith: the best of people is he who benefits others most. I decided to explain this important book, expanding on the clear concepts and rules mentioned by the Shaikh. In explaining and expanding on the Shaikh’s words, I relied heavily, first upon Allah Almighty, and then upon the many other works of the Shaikh himself. I chose to explain the copy printed by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Preaching, and Guidance; it is the last edition that was printed during the life of the Shaikh – may Allah have mercy upon him. I chose it because it is the best copy in terms of organization and editing; moreover, it has an additional section on the topic of Ihsan. To further help and encourage the reader – whether he is a student, teacher, caller to Islam, male, or female – I inserted questions for each lesson (at the end of the book), to help the student both understand and digest the material. I ask Allah Almighty by His Beautiful Names and Most High Attributes to rectify our intentions and to make our children righteous, and to grant us sincerity in speech and in deed; indeed, He is the One upon Whom we rely, and He is Most Capable of answering our prayers. And the last of our supplications is that all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all that exists. Muhammad bin ‘Ali Al-‘Arfaj(May Allah forgive him, his parents, and all Muslims).

Six Events From The Prophetic Sirah— Sh. Salih al-Fawzan

“Ponder upon six events from the Prophetic history (Sirah) and understand them in an excellent manner.”

What is intended by the term Sirah is the history of the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, and this is the path that the Messenger used to traverse upon from the time he was dispatched (as a Prophet) until Allah caused him to die, in terms of worship, social interactions, da’wah to Allah the Mighty and Majestic, jihad, Hijrah and teaching. All of his actions, statements, and interactions make up his Seerah.  This affair (the history of the Messenger) is important for the Muslim to study so that one may follow his example.  This is because Allah The Majestic and Most High has made him an example for us.

The six (6) events covered in this book include:

  1. The Descent of Revelation
  2. The polytheists deemed the religion of Muhammad (S) to be good until he openly criticized their religion
  3. His recitation of Surah an-Najm in their midst
  4. The story of Abu Talib
  5. The story of Hijrah
  6. The story of the Apostasy after the Prophet’s Death صلى الله عليه وسلم

How to Make the Most of Ramadan

Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah’s Apostle (PBUH) said: “Whoever establishes prayers during the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih Bukhari – Volume 1, Book 2, Number 36)This booklet was initially published on the internet by Islamicknowledge.com. The research team at Darussalam Publishers has reviewed the content thoroughly and improved its presentation significantly. The revised version is being presented for the benefit of Muslims to help them make the most of the Holy month of Ramadan.

Fasting in Ramadan, the 9th month in the Hijri Calendar is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. In this month, Allah has made fasting obligatory upon Muslims, as He had to earlier peoples and nations. Islam declares Ramadan as an annual training program for the Muslims to refresh their commitment to Allah and understand their duties well. This, in turn, helps them enjoy a peaceful and more successful living.

Governing Yourself & Your Family According To What Allah Has Revealed

The subject matter of this work has preoccupied and continues to preoccupy the minds of our nation’s members; yet in spite of this preoccupation, many people lack a correct understanding regarding it. Because the issues that fall under the subject matter of this work are so important, I decided to write this work, through which I hope to make plain the way to live and act according to what Allah has revealed. Contrary to what some may think, this work is relevant not just to leaders, but to every individual as well. Each and every human being is a leader and chief of sorts, for just as a ruler is responsible for the welfare of his state and citizens, each one of us is responsible for his flock — the members of his family and, more importantly, his own self…

Yes I Converted to Islam and here is Why

All praise is due to Allah, and may He exalt the mention of our Prophet (ﷺ), his household and Companions. Allah has chosen Muhammad (ﷺ) to be His last Messenger to convey His lost Message to mankind. This means that Islam is not restricted to one particular race, rather, it is a universal message to mankind at large. It the only Deen of which Allah approves. He says:

And he who seeks a Deen other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him and he shall be among the losers on the Day of Resurrection. (3:85)

Islam has received throughout ages great response to the point that there is not a single city in the world which is void of Muslims. This is due to the fact that whoever applies reason while studying Islam, cannot help but accepts it out of conviction.

Hypocrisy is living well in the West. How else does one explain the demonization of Islam, a culture of peace, piety and enlightenment by cynics in the Occident? While many western societies found an ape from tyranny through pitched warfare and violent revolution, they have been quick to decry the use of even vaguely similar remedies to liberate oppressed peoples throughout the world and have, in fact, supported the politics, policies, and methods of criminally repressive regimes to their own selfish ends. The tragic irony is that Muslims have suffered exponentially at the hands of westerners, whose marauding 12th-century ancestors found an ape from the Dark Ages only through gifts bestowed upon them by Muslim scholars, scientists, artisans, and theologians. The genius of Muslim Haythem, ibn Rushd to al-Ghazzali are precious drops of water in an ocean of Islamic scientists and philosophers whose ideas quite literally swept a stagnant, reactionary Europe into its much cherished Renaissance.

Freewill, Qadar, and Kasb in the Epistle of Hasan al‐Basri to Abd al‐Malik

Hasan al-Basri said:

Allah has said, “I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me. I seek no provision from them, nor do I need them to feed Me.” (Quran 51:56-57) Thus He commanded them to worship Him, for which (purpose) He had created them, and Allah is not one to create them for a purpose and then intervene between them and it (to prevent them from fulfilling it), because “He does not wrong His servants.” (Quran 16:118)

The Muslim Conquest of Persia

Following the publication of ‘Khalid ibn Waleed – Sword of Allah,’ there has been a huge revival in reader’s interest for books dealing with early Islamic History. It was decided that we complete the task of publishing the [out of print] books by A.I.Akram on the first hundred years of Islam. They are as follows;

Hence, present before you is second in the series of books written by A.I.Akram – The Muslim Conquest of Persia. This version has been edited with the addition of footnotes, Anglicization of certain terms and the corrections of minor spelling and grammatical errors. ‘So here it is, my second book; The Muslim Conquest of Persia. It is my second assault upon the ignorance which surrounds this field of Muslim history. According to an old Chinese proverb, it is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness. This is my second candle, may it light the way for those who seek!” Lieutenant General A.I. Akram has had a distinguished career in military, diplomatic and literary fields. He served in Burma in WWII, fought against India in 1971, and thereafter served as Pakistan’s Military Deputy to the Central Treaty Organisation(CENTO). Upon completion of this assignment he founded the Institute of Regional Studies in Islamabad which is a research institute dealing with South Africa. The General’s career in historical research covers a vast period in Muslim military history extending from the early days of Islam to the conquest of Spain almost a hundred years later and the wars of Muslim Spain thereafter. He learnt Arabic and Spanish in order to conduct his research and also visited the countries where the battles were fought and discussed historical events with local scholars. –This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Silent Moments: The Description of Before & After Death Aspects

The book Silent Moments deals with the science of death, which is the research work of brother Abdul Malik Al-Qasim, a renowned and a pious scholar of the Quran and the Sunnah as well as the Arabic Language. Nowadays, these worthy books are hardly available and due to their being in large volumes, people have no time to get benefit from them. About death and after death, there is a sound creed in Islam and it has been mentioned and discussed many times in the Quran and the Sunnah. In View of its importance, Darussalam has rendered (Silent Moments) into the English language with the prior permission from the author.

Abu Hazim said: “Trade of the Hereafter is not sought after, and whatever is left of it, is about to finish! As a result, no part of it, minor or major, will remain.” Whenever the light went out in the house of Hisham bin Abu Abdullah, he would turn around in his bed until his wife brought a light for him. So she asked him why he felt anxious when the light went off and he replied, “When the light goes off, I remember the darkness of the grave.”

This is why AI-Mu’tasim used to say when he was dying, “If I knew that my life would be this short, I would not have committed what I committed.”

Also, Caliph AI-Muntasir said at the time of death, when he was wished well, “All will happen except being well! Life has gone away and the Hereafter has come.”

Ibn Mas’ud ~ once said: “The believer will not attain comfort until he meets ALLAH”

Life is Just like a dream that passes as fast as clouds. It is a mere hour of time that soon fades away. It is a journey that has already started and will soon come to an abrupt end.

Abū Bakr’s Befitting Response to a Pagan or an Insult to Another’s Religion?

Critics of Islam often bring up issues that seem to be controversial without providing the proper context for the situation or how such a situation would have been viewed in light of Arab society at the time of the Prophet – peace be upon him. This leads to false information being spread and misleading impressions being given. One such issue is with the wording of a response that the Companion Abū Bakr to one of the pagans. These critics claim that Abū Bakr was unnecessarily insulting and insensitive to the other’s religion. This article will examine the context of this incident and explain how Abū Bakr’s statement would have been viewed by the Arabs during that particular time period.

Lying and envying

Allah has told us that on the Day of Resurrection nothing would help us except our truthfulness. He will make Kadhib (liar) in speech and· actions the flag by which the hypocrites will be distinguished. Everything that the Lord blames them with has originated within the lying of their speech and actions. So the truth or truthfulness is the mail of Faith, its guide, mount, drive, leader, adornment, and garment. It is the heart and the soul of Faith.

On the other hand, lying is the mail of disbelief and hypocrisy. It is their guide, mount, drive, leader, adornment, garment and heart. The relationship of Kadhib to Faith is like Shirk to Tauhid. Kadhib and Faith can never be together in the same place. If they meet, one of them will push the other out and take its place. Allah has not blessed any person with a blessing after Islam greater than truthfulness. It is actually the life and the survival of Islam. And Allah has never tried a person with something worse than Kadhib. Kadhib is indeed the disease that may spoil the
Faith.

A Guide to Giving Dawah To Non-Muslims

Currently, there are many people, particularly in the developed societies, thirsty for the guidance of Allah. There are millions of people, who are unhappy with their modern and unfulfilling material life. Modern civilization failed to give them the spiritual satisfaction they need. These people are in need for sincere Muslims who are capable of bringing them to the Truth of Islam; to a balanced and happy life.

Let us not underestimate the power of Islam to win people’s hearts; it is tremendous and beyond our expectation. It is amazing how Islam brings hearts together; one only needs to visit any Islamic Da’wah center and see people who have come to Islam from all religions, cultures, colors and races in harmony and brotherhood; it reminds Muslims with the holy verse:

“If you had spent all that is in the earth you could not have attuned their hearts, but Allah has attuned them [Quran 8:63]

Islam and Christianity in the modern world

More than a generation has elapsed since Islam and Christianity in the Modern World was first published. This time has served to accentuate the tendencies in Christianity mentioned by the author in his chapter on “Christianity in the Modern World.” Another far-reaching change is the significant increase in the Muslim population of traditionally Christian countries (viz., in Europe and America) through both conversion and migration. The presence of sizable Muslim populations in these countries (notably West Germany,· France, U.K., U.S.A. etc.) has not only brought this two world religions into closer contact in a setting distinctly more favourable to Islam than the encounter with Christianity in the heyday of Western Imperialism and Colonialism, but has also enhanced the possibility of Islam filling the spiritual vacuum which characterises modern Christian Western civilization. Thus the topic of this book is still of contemporary relevance and interest.

Guidelines For A Successful Marriage

The sanctity and status of marriage are great in Islam, and it is especially encouraged among the youth. Marriage is an institution that unites a man and woman in a permissible and, indeed, much-encouraged relationship. The couple starts their journey together, each finding comfort in the other in straitened times, and each enjoying the other’s company in prosperous and easy times. In the Quran, Allaah The Almighty calls upon us to ponder on the beautiful and sacred relationship of marriage: {And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your [hearts]} [Quran, 30:21]

Marriage creates a powerful bond which, with mutual affection and sacrifice, establishes a strong Muslim family where offspring are provided with a suitable adherent and practicing environment. Thus, the couple’s children will not only be born Muslims but will live Islam in its true spirit and develop the character and behavior of true Muslims. A Muslim society rests upon the Muslim family, and when the family’s members are trained from childhood to acquire Islamic morals, compete with one another in doing good deeds and engage in productive activities, the Muslim society is strong indeed.

Jumu`ah or Friday is so important in Islam. It is considered the best day of the week for Muslims. It is the day where the Muslims gather to offer prayer in congregation. The day of Jumu`ah is one of the blessings that the Muslim nation has been endowed with. Imam Ibn Kathir said, “It was named Jumu`ah because it is derived from the word Al-Jam` in Arabic which means to gather, as Muslims gather on this day every week, and Allah has commanded the believers to gather for His worship, as He says what means: “O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for Jumu`ah (Friday prayer), come fast to the remembrance of Allah.” (Al-Jumu`ah 62: 9) meaning be keen to go and attend it.”

E-Da`wah Committee is pleased to present to you the most authentic hadiths regarding Friday and its merits. This includes some narrations that focus on the etiquette and rules of Friday Prayer. It also includes the preferred acts that a Muslim can do in order to get the great rewards on Friday.

The right way- Ibn Taymiyyah (summarised translation)

Our present society – teeming with polytheistic and innovated practices such as invoking the dead, festivals at shrines, seeking help of soothsayers and exorcists, celebration of the birth or death anniversaries of Prophets and saints, unlawful vow and sanctification of persons, places and times, belief in omens and countless other superstitions and so on – stands in need of Shaykh-ul-Islaam’s works that have educated and guided both the commoners and scholars for the last several centuries.

The Right Way is a summarised translation of Ibn Taymiyyah’s great work, Iqtida-us-Siratil Mustaqueem. It is hoped that the living topics discussed herein in a highly erudite but lucid style, which has been more or less transferred into English, would enlighten the readers and guide the seekers of truth.

Child Education In Islam – Abdullah Nasih Ulwan

This book outlines the basic Islamic concepts in child education. The  author has tried to coordiante the main ideas, as well as the basics  precepts for raising Muslim children in all the different spheres of  life. First of all, the importance of correct belief and faith cannot be inculcated in young children except through the teaching and example of their parents; and obviously, the role of the mature and religious  mother is foremost. This state of harmony can only be achieved when  matrimonial relations are relatively stable. Care is to be taken in  providing young children with all the necessary elements in the fields of ethical, physical and psychological education. This cannot be overemphasized. It is established that the common ailments of human societies, personal as well as social, find their remedy in monotheism and justice. Therefore, emphasis on these two moral principles is essential. Muslim children must develop a clear understanding of the concept of the oneness of Allah, mainly through the performance of devotional acts of worship, to Him, and through developing a sense of justice in all personnel and social dealings. The author has briefly outlined these glorious concepts in this book. Through his deep understanding of Islam, and his eminent conviction and personal adherence to its glorious principles, he introduces this book to the readers, with all practical instructions, with the intention of helping to build up a Muslim nation, worthily to uphold the honorable tenets of the Glorious Qur’an and Sunnah.

Men & The Universe – Reflections Of Ibn Qayyim

Reflections of Ibn Qayyim. This book was originally a section of Ibn Al-Qayyim’s book Miftaahu Daar is-Sa’aadah (Key to the Abode of Happiness). This section was extracted from it due to its discussion of some of the Signs of Allah in the human beings and the universe. Also, Ibn Al-Qayyim’s book was chosen due to its perceptive and meaningful wisdom. Another outstanding characteristic of this book is that Ibn-Al-Qayyim calls for the use of the intellect and self-introspection. He encourages the reader to deeply think about the creation of Allah, the Most High — in the human being, existence, animals and nature. The complier, Capt. Anas Abdul-Hameed Al-Qoz, supports the writing of Ibn Al-Qayyim by mentioning modern scientific discoveries, useful notes and beneficial pictures that help achieve the objective. Thus, this book is a continuous and active call to all of mankind to look and reflect upon the Signs of Allah if they want the truth and sincerely wish to follow it. We will show them Our Signs in the universe and in themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.

New Muslim Ramadan Guide

What Is Fasting?
Fasting is called sawm in the Qur’an. The word sawm literally means ‘to abstain’. In Surat Maryam, Allah tells us about Mary, the mother of Jesus, that she said:
I have vowed a fast (sawm) for the sake of the Merciful, so today I shall not speak to anyone. (Maryam 19:26)
The meaning is ‘I have vowed to abstain from speaking to anyone today’. According to Shari`ah, the word sawm means to abstain from all things that are forbidden during fasting from the break of dawn to the sunset, and to do this with the intention of fasting.
Why Do Muslims Fast?
The Qur’an says:
O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those who were before you, in order that you may learn taqwah (God consciousness). (Al-Baqarah 2:183)

Taqwa is a very important spiritual and ethical term mentioned repeatedly in the Qur’an. It is the sum total of all Islamic spirituality and ethics. It is a quality in a believer’s life that keeps him/her God fearing all the time.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that fasting is a shield. It protects a person from sin and lustful desires.

A view through Hijab

In the beginning of the 1990’s when I embraced Islam in France, the controversy surrounding the wearing of hijab in school was an extremely heated issue. The French were faced with economic problems which had resulted in high unemployment and social insecurity. This was predominantly felt in the big cities. The immigrant population, especially from Muslim countries, was seen as one of the causes of unemployment. The sight of hijab in their towns and schools aggravated already negative attitudes towards Muslims. The majority of people thought that allowing students to wear hijab was against the public education system’s principle of neutrality on religion. I had not yet become a Muslim, and I did not understand why the schools were so concerned over a mere piece of cloth worn on a student’s head. Observing the hijab from the outside, I also did not understand its significance to Muslims. But I considered that in maintaining neutrality in matters of religion, the schools should still respect a student’s beliefs and his performance of religious duties. As long as this expression did not disturb the school’s discipline, it should be not be prohibited.

The Islamic awakening- Sh. Ibn Uthaymeen

My brothers, the Islamic awakening of today has pervaded all Islamic countries, and all praise is for Allah. It has to be understood, however, that this awakening must be established upon a solid foundation – in terms of Allah’s book and Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [sallallahu alaihi wasallam]. If it is not established upon these primary sources, then it will be a reckless and unstable awakening, which will perhaps destroy more than it will build. But if it is built upon the principles and teaching of Allah’s Book and the authentic Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [sallallahu alaihi wasallam], then it will have a very positive and effective influence on the Muslim Nation and on other Nations as well.

Who would imagine that, at the time, even the Arabs were not under his rule; in fact, the Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wasallam] has not even conquered Makkah; he was still considered to be an emigrant of Makkah? So who would imagine that a king such as Harqal, who ruled over so many people, would say such a statement: “If what you say is the truth, then he will rule over what is underneath these two feet of mine?” Did what Harqal predict actually occur or not? Did the Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wasallam] rule over what was underneath the feet of Harqal, i.e. Sham at the time, Rome ruled over those lands? Isn’t it true that Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wasallam] died before the Muslims conquered Sham?

My brothers, if this consciousness that has pervaded the ranks of the Muslim youth today is not based on Allah’s book and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [sallallahu alaihi wasallam], then it will be reckless and misguided, and it is feared that it will destroy more than it will build.

Youth’s problem- Sh. Ibn Uthaymeen

Youth is a time of great change and hope for the future. It can be the happiest and most productive time of a person’s life, yet this stage of development can also be fraught with numerous psychological, sociological, and spiritual crises. Because the young people of any society carry the future of their nation on their shoulders, their problem and troubles should be of utmost concern for everyone around them and solution to these difficulties must be practical and concrete.

Islam offers a perfect code of life which addresses human concerns at all stages of life. The dilemmas faced by contemporary young people are no exception. Worries and misconceptions creep into their minds, make them feel confused and distressed, and may cause them to tum in the wrong direction; this may result in their being led astray. Allah the Creator, however; has bestowed upon humanity complete guidance which, if understood and followed, offers direction to even the most troubled minds and hearts. Young people who follow Allah’s guidance will become a source of pride, inspiration and strength for the global Muslim community. They offer hope for the future and a cure for the ills that plague the world. Their reward lies not only in this world but in the eternal life to come.

Sincerity- Sh. Salih al-Munajjid

Muslim scholars have paid great attention to the deeds of the heart, authored many books on this topic, explained the importance of this issue to people and encouraged them to be
mindful of it and develop themselves in this field. This is because the salvation of humankind (after the mercy of Allah) is achieved through having a sound and sincere heart.

The deeds of the heart require greater care and struggle than the deeds of the limbs and the tongue, and if the heart is reformed, rectified and is treated for its illnesses and defects,
then the actions and deeds of the limbs will be done purely for the sake of Allah. Therefore, the main and most essential matter is to reform and remedy the actions of the heart, because without a sound heart there would be no benefit from the actions of the limbs.

Contemporary physicists and Gods existence

First...we do not grant him that a thing cannot perish except by decaying; decaying is only one way of perishing; but it is not improbable for something to perish suddenly while it is in its complete form.

Second, even if we grant him that there is no perishing without decay, whence does he know that it does not suffer any decay? His reference to observation posts is not acceptable, because their quantities [the quantities known by them] are known only approximately.

So if the sun, which is said to be a hundred and seventy times or more the size of the earth. We now know that it is definitely more. The mass of the sun is 333, 000 times that of the earth, and its radius is 109 times the earth’s radius., were to diminish by amounts the size of mountains, that would not be apparent to the senses. So it might be decaying, and might have decreased by amounts the size of mountains or more, but the senses cannot perceive this …” (Al-Ghazali, 126)

Al-Ghazali’s guess that the size of the sun might be diminishing was, as we can now see, a rare prescience of what science would prove. Scientists now tell us that the sun does indeed decay, but much more than he thought, and that it will ultimately perish.

The amount of energy released by the sun is such that the mass of the sun is decreasing at the rate of 4.3 billion kilograms per second. Yet this is such a small fraction of the sun’s mass that the change is hardly noticeable… Our sun is believed to be about 4.5 billion years old, and will probably continue its present activity for another 4.5 billion years. Celebrating Valentine’s day- Sh. Salih al-Munajjid

In recent years, a new phenomenon has spread among the Muslim youth – males and females alike – which does not bode well. This is manifested in their imitation of the Christians in their celebration of the Valentine’s Day, which has led the scholars and Daa’iyahs (callers to Islam) to explain the rulings of Sharee’ah (Islamic legislation) concerning that, out of sincerity towards Allah, His Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk, so that Muslims may have a clear understanding of this issue and so that they will not fall into that which will undermine the belief (‘Aqeedah) with which Allah has blessed them.

This is a brief discussion of the origins, development and purpose of this holiday, and what the Muslim should do with regard to it.

Concept of gender equality in Islam

As mentioned in a New York Times article on Women’s health:

In contrast to the feminist premise that women can do anything men can do, science is demonstrating that women can do some things better, that they have many biological and cognitive advantages over men. Then again, there are some things that women don’t do as well.

“If any do deeds of righteousness,- be they male or female – and have faith, they will enter Heaven, and not the least injustice will be done to them.” (Quran 4:124)

“Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.” (Quran 16:97)

“He that works evil will not be requited but by the like thereof: and he that works a righteous deed – whether man or woman – and is a Believer- such will enter the Garden (of Bliss): Therein will they have abundance without measure.” (Quran 40:40)

The History of the Khalifahs- Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti

This is a new translation of the chapters on al-Khulafa’ar- Rashidun from as-Suyuti’s Tarikh al-Khulafa’. These chapters shine with a genuine light. I have continued beyond the first four khulafa’to include al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, because he was the fifth of the khulafa’ and he legitimately transferred the Khilafah to Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him.

The translation lacks the majority of references to the books which are the sources of the hadith quoted, because whoever is interested find the Arabic text easily available.

Furthermore the translation stays as close as possible to the original Arabic at the risk of a slight awkwardness in the English. Where necessary I have added within parentheses whatever seemed necessary for an understanding of the book.

The history outlined in these pages is further illuminated by a work which is even greater than it, but is itself an exposition that assumes a knowledge of what is in these pages, that is al-Awasim min al-Qawasim (‘Defence Against Disaster’) by Qadi Abu Bakr ibn al-Arabi, may Allah show him mercy Whereas as-Suyuti gives most authentic traditions relating to these khilafahs, Qadi Abu bakr lays bare the real significance of many of the events which as-Suyuti so expertly relates.

Dangers in the Home- Sh. Salih al-Munajjid

Praise be to Allaah. We praise Him and seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own selves and from our evil deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides cannot be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray cannot be guided. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but Allaah alone, with no partner or associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Putting things right in the home is a great trust and huge responsibility which every Muslim man and woman should undertake as Allaah The Almighty commands, by running the affairs of their homes in accordance with the rules set out by Allaah The Almighty. One of the ways of achieving this is by ridding the home of evil things.

The following discussion aims to bring to light some of the evils that actually happen in some homes and that have become tools of destruction for the nests in which the future generations of the Ummah (Muslim nation) are being raised. This concise paper highlights some of these evils, and explains some Haraam (forbidden) matters in order to caution readers about them. It is a gift to every seeker of truth who is looking for methods of change, so that he or she can implement the command of the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam:

“Whoever of you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand [by taking action], and if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out], and if he cannot, then with his heart [by feeling that it is wrong] and that is the weakest of faith.”

(Reported by Muslim in his Saheeh, 1/69)

This discussion expands upon some forbidden or evil matters that have already been mentioned in brief in 40 Recommendations for the Muslim Home.

Let’s Talk About Ramadan

It is important for every Muslim to know and understand that the month of Ramaḍān opens the doors of goodness, and it makes the pathways to Paradise (ꞌAl-Jannah) easy to obtain just as was stated by the Messenger of ꞌAllāh, ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam. ꞌAbū Hurayrah, may ꞌAllāh be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of ꞌAllāh, ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said,

“Upon the arrival of Ramaḍān the doors of Paradise are opened, the doors of the Hellfire are closed, and the devils are shackled.”

The people of knowledge have explained “the devils are shackled” with numerous explanations. Some of the scholars say that “the devils are shackled” is a sign that there is no excuse for a person to disobey ꞌAllāh, The Most High. So it is as if it has been said, “the devils have been held back from you, therefore don’t use the devil as an excuse to leave off performing acts of obedience for ꞌAllāh, and don’t use the devil as an excuse to commit sins.”

It has also been reported on the authority of ꞌAbū Hurayrah, may ꞌAllāh be pleased with him, that the messenger of ꞌAllāh, ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam said,

“Whoever fasts Ramaḍān believing in ꞌAllāh, and desiring his reward from ꞌAllāh alone, will be forgiven for his previous sins.”

We ask ꞌAllāh to make us of those who strive during the blessed month of Ramaḍān, seeking His reward alone, and may the prayers and peace be upon Muḥammad, his family and all of his companions and those who follow him until the Day of Judgment.

About the Book

This is a conversation taking place between Amir and Zayd. Amir is a new Muslim who has some questions about fasting in Ramaḍān. Zayd has a significant amount of knowledge regarding fasting as he was granted the opportunity to travel abroad and study ꞌIslām. On the Monday morning after praying Ṣalātal-Fajr, Amir’s car wouldn’t start. When Amir saw Zayd leaving the masjid, he asked Zayd if he could take him to work . . .

Weeping from the fear of Allah- Sh. Husayn al-Awaayishah

Ibn al-Hârith the nephew of ‘Aisha (radiAllahu anha) the wife of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) narrated that she was told that ‘Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr (on hearing that she was selling of giving a gift) said:

“By Allâh, if ‘Aisha does not give this up, I will make hijrah (ie boycott) from her.” She asked, “Did he say this?”. They replied, “Yes”. Then ‘Aisha said, “I vow to Allâh that I will never speak to Ibn az-Zubayr.” When this desertion was prolonged, ‘Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr sought intercession with the people converning her but she said, “By Allâh I will not accept the intercesson of anyone on his behalf and will not commit a sin by breaking my vow”. When this state of affairs was prolonged on Ibn az-Zubayr (ie he felt it hard on himself), he spoke to al-Miswar bin Makhramah and ‘Abdur Rahmân bin al-Aswad bin ‘Abd Yaghûth, who were from the tribe of Bani Zuhrah, saying “I beseech you by Allâh to (help) me to enter upon ‘Aisha, for it is unlawful for her to vow to cut off relations with me [3] “. So al-Miswar and ‘Abdur Rahmân went with him wrapping their cloaks around themselves, they went to ‘Aisha and asked her permission (to enter) saying “Assalâmu alayki wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu! May we come in?” ‘ ‘Aisha responded “Come in”. They asked, “All of us?”. She replied “Yes, come in, all of you” unaware that Ibn az-Zubayr was also with them. So when they entered, Ibn az-Zubayr entered the place which screened (‘Aisha from the other men and embraced ‘Aisha and started requesting her to excuse him and wept. al-Miswar and ‘Abdur Rahmân also started urging her to speak to him and to accept his apology. They said to her: “You know what the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) forbade regarding deserting (not speaking to your Muslim brethren), for it is unlawful for any Muslim not to talk to his brother for more than three nights”. So when they increased in reminding her (of the superiority of having good relations with kith and kin, and of excusing others sins) and of the unhappy and unpleasant constrictions that are a consequence of breaking the ties of relationship, she started reminding them while she wept saying, “I have made a vow, and (the issue of a) vow is a different one”. They persisted in their appeal until she spoke to ‘Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr and she freed forty slaves as an expiation for her vow. Later on whenever she remembered her vow, she would weep so profusely that her veil would become wet with her tears”.(al Bukhârî)

Selected Fatawas on Faith Healing and Witchcraft

(Golden Fatwas on Legal Ruqyas) Al-Fatawa Aththahabiyyah Fir-Ruqa Ashshar’iyyah, published 1996 A.D.

It is a selection of Fatwas by Ibn-Baz, Ibn-Uthaimeen, Ibn-Jibreen and others; the Fatwas are selected and compiled by Khaled al-Jaraisy, and are translated by Mohamed Atif Mogahed Mohamed.

Evidently, there is urgent need to spread the benefit of treatment with legal Ruqyas, for they have had a great impact on curing a lot of psychological and other diseases that modem medicine has failed to treat, such as epilepsy, possession, the effects of the evil eye and witchcraft.

In such circumstances, some opportunists have exploited the patients’ bad need for treatment; without evidenceom Naql (the literature conveyed faithfully to us by the Salaf), reason, deduction or observation, confused diagnosis and prescriptions have emerged.

In spite of the sincere efforts of some dedicated Muslims whose Ruqyas and medications Allah has blessed and made beneficial, the situation has become chaotic. On the one hand, some sorcerers have emerged claiming falsely to treat with Ruqyas. On the other hand, the genuinely righteous Raqis have been falsely accused of practising sorcery. As a result, those in real need of treatment have become so confused that they cannot distinguish the true from the false: some have mistaken sorcerers for genuine Raqis and have sought their services, whereas others have shunned Ruqya treatment entirely for fear of falling victims to sorcerers.

The present selection of Fatwas is a valuable guide to those seeking Ruqya treatment. It manifests such a level of Ijtihad that those in need of guidance can follow the verdicts and answers while trusting in the knowledge and integrity of the Ulama who have issued them.

Scriptures of Christianity & Islam: A Basic Comparison

Christians and Muslims who learn something of one another’s religion find that a crucial issue is the nature of Jesus. The majority of Christians deify Jesus while Muslims say that he was no more than a prophet of God, a faultless human being. The doctrine of the Trinity avows that three distinct co-equals are God. In particular, Jesus is said to be God the Son or the Son of God. As the Muslim questions details of this theology the Christian characteristically forms a common explanation for our differences: He complains that Muslims do not understand the Trinity: that we are actually accusing Christians of Tritheism and other heresies.

So the Muslim seeks clarification of the teaching and asks at every step: “How could that be so?” For example, we insist that the term “Son of God” cannot have a literal interpretation. Sonship and divine nature would be necessary attributes of such an actuality, but these are incompatible. The first describes a recipient of life while the second describes One who received life from no one. These are mutually exclusive requirements then. To be a son is to be less than divine, and to be divine is to be no one’s son.

As a discussion proceeds, it is the Christian who will eventually take refuge in the response: “These are things that we cannot understand.” His assessment of the Muslim’s problem becomes his own confession. The Christian explanation becomes self-defeating so there is a change of tactic.

He complains that the Muslim refuses to accept what cannot be understood. But the modified approach is a diversion. Now the concepts of verification and understanding are confused. To illustrate: Chemical reactions may be verified but the atom is not thereby understood. Facts are catalogued but not always explained. This distinction is the key to our concise reply. It is the Muslim who must redirect the discussion. Our primary issue is more basic than resolving the incongruities of Trinitarian doctrine. Rather than ask how the Trinity can be so, we should ask why it must be so. “We ask, “Why must Jesus be divine? Can we verify the necessity of this belief?”

Christianity: Points to ponder

A Helpless GOD:

The Church says that GOD sent his beloved son to the cross. But why a son who was so innocent is to be crucified in the first place and why GOD could not defend HIS only son? And why GOD though being Almighty could not save people torturing HIS own son?

Why Four Gospels?

“If Gospel was the word of GOD) then why should there be four Gospels. They are according to Matthew ~according to Mark, according to Luke and according to John. Only one should have been enough. Further, these four Gospels have contradictions within them. Then where else one can find GOD’s, pure words? The answer is in the “Holy Qur’aan.”

and many more mentioned in this Book.

Truth about reality of the Bible and Christianity

In the present world, the books which are published as the Bible. Taurat, Psalms and Inzil- are all altered and distorted and it is totally useless to believe these distorted books. Actually. it is necessary to believe the original Taurat and the Inzil. though those books and book-lets in unaltered form are not available anywhere in the world.

The Christian Missionaries of today preach the present Bible as the book of God, actually by saying this. they try to be-fool the common. simple and uninformed people. This book is written as an attempt to caution the people against their deception.

In this book. the historical background of the doctrine of trinity, its futility and irrationality have been discussed in detail. Besides their faith· in redemption. which they regard as their fundamental creed, has also been discussed.

Who wrote the Quran?

“Do they not then consider the Qur’an carefully? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much contradiction.” [4:82]
God created man for a noble purpose: to worship Him and lead a righteous life based on His commands and guidance to mankind. Mankind learned this by God sending Messengers with clear and practical instructions of the meaning of life and how to worship God properly. God also revealed to these Prophets and Messengers knowledge about what will happen after death and the rewards and punishments for one’s actions.

These Prophets and Messengers convey the same prevailing message which is entrusted to them by God. They proclaimed:

“…Oh my people! Worship God! (i.e., without associating anything with him) You have no other god but Him. [Qur’an: 7:65]

God sent a Prophet and/or Messenger to every nation throughout the history of mankind.

“And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a messenger (proclaiming): Worship Allah (Alone) and avoid (or keep away from) all false deities”

[Qur’an: 16:36]

Some of them we have been informed of and others we have not. These Prophets and Messengers include, but not limited to: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Lot, David, Solomon, Elias, Elisha, Hood, Thul-Kifi, Enoch, Jonah, Job Shu’aib, Saalih, Ezra, Zachariyyah, John, Jesus , Muhammad and others peace and blessings be upon them all.

Some of them were sent with Books while others were not. Some of the books that we were informed of are the Scriptures of Abraham, the Torah of Moses, the Zaboor of Dawood, and the Injeel which was revealed to Jesus. All of these scriptures contained the same basic message from God to mankind.

Each Prophet brought specific instructions from God addressed to a particular people for certain times in history and particular circumstances although the essential message remained the same.

A few examples of this would be the fact that Moses’ contemporaries were excellent in magic. So his major miracle was to defeat the best magicians of his days. Jesus’ contemporaries were recognized as skillful physicians. Therefore, his miracles were to raise the dead and cure the incurable diseases. The Arabs, the contemporaries of the Muhammad, were known for their eloquence and magnificent poetry. So Muhammad’s (Peace and Blessings be upon him) major miracle was the Qur’an, the equivalent of which the whole legion of the Arab poets and orators could not produce despite the repeated challenge from the Qur’an itself.

However, the beauty and power of Muhammad’s (Peace and Blessings be upon him) major miracle is that it removes the constraints of place and time. It is the permanent miracle for all generations to see. Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) is the final Messenger and that his Prophethood is also not limited to time and place, and is for all peoples (after the advent of his Prophethood) in all times until the Day of Judgement.

Now, many who would agree with everything we have stated above may reject this about Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) his Messengership and the scripture with which he was sent. (The Qur’an)

It is our objective here to prove without a shadow of a doubt that the Qur’an is in fact from God Himself and by extension that Muhammad is in fact a Messenger of God. For we cannot accept the Message and reject the Messenger, or vice versa. Both must be accept or both must be rejected. We can basically divide the groups of opinions on the Qur’an into three groups:

  1. – Those who say that Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) himself wrote the Qur’an
  2. – Those who say that the Qur’an was written by someone else and taught to Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him)
  3. – Those who believe that the Qur’an is the pure word of God having no human author

In this article, we will briefly review the above three arguments based on logic, historical evidence, textual analysis and even scientific data.

Based on our arguments above, we can logically conclude tha t if the Qur’an was written by Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) or some other man (or group of men) then it is correct to reject the man and his message. However, if it is proven that the Qur’an is indeed from God, then it is necessary for us to believe in it, follow it and accept Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and a Messenger of God.

We ask the reader to reflect…

Who wrote the Quran?

Did God become man? Dr. Bilal Philips

The vast majority of human beings have always believed in God. From the most ancient civilizations to the most primitive of modern societies, religions with God at their center have formed the foundation of human culture. In fact, the denial of God’s existence (atheism) throughout history was limited to a few individuals until the rise of communism in the 20th century. Even today, in the secular societies of the West, where modern social scientists armed with Darwinian theories have argued that God is merely a figment of the human collective imagination, the overwhelming majority of citizens, laymen and even scientists, hold steadfast to their belief in God.

Consequently, the overwhelming body of archeological data in support of God’s existence has led some anthropologists to conclude that belief in God (deism) must be inborn and not learnt. Although the vast majority of social scientists proposed otherwise, recent scientific discoveries appear to support the minority view that deism is innate. In an article entitled “God Spot is found in the Brain,” Dr. Vilayanur Ramachandran of the University of California at San Diego said that the phenomenon of religious belief in God is hard wired into the brain.

Islamic principles and rules of debate- Sh. Saleh Abdullah ibn Humaid

The main · objectives of a debate are the substantiation of truth with proof and the refutation of doubts and fallacious statements and propositions.

It follows that debate should be held with the sincere cooperation of the debaters to unveil truth and state it to his partner correctly. A participant ought to work for revealing to his partner what the latter fails to perceive, and to follow the correct methods of inference to arrive at truth.

AI-Thahabi says in this connection: “A debate is only justified to unveil truth, so that the more knowledgeable should impart knowledge to the less knowledgeable, and to stimulate a weaker intellect.”

Besides the main objectives, there are secondary or supportive objectives of debate. Some of these objectives are listed below:

– · A general preliminary objective is getting acquainted with the other party’s or parties’ point-of View.
– Reaching a compromise that satisfies all the concerned parties

– Investigating broad-mindedly for bringing into play all the diverse approaches and conceptualizations, with a view to ensuring better and more feasible results, even if in later debates.

The Purpose of Creation by Majed S. Al-Rassi

Wise individuals know that they exist for a purpose and a final destination, whether or not they are aware of the exact nature of that destination. Wise individuals also understand that if they do not know where they are going, they will never strive to reach there. This little book has shed some light on the following:

  • Why were human beings created?
  • What is their final destination?
  • How can they reach that destination ‘safely’?

Fatawa of Shaikh Al-Albaanee (rahimahullah)

THE SCHOLARS’ PRAISE FOR IMAAM AL-ALBAANEE

Shaikh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez Al-Hudda said:
“The Shaikh, the great scholar, the ocean (of knowledge), Muhammad Al-Ameen Ash-Shanqeetee (rahimahullaah) – the one whom no knowledge of the Science of Tafseer and the Arabic Language was comparable to during his lifetime – used to respect Shaikh Al-Albaanee so remarkably to the point that when he would see him passing by, and he was giving his class in the masjid of Madeenah, he would stop his class to stand and give Salaam to him out of respect for him.”
The great scholar, the teacher, Muhibb-ud-Deen Al-Khateeb said:
“And from the callers to the Sunnah who devoted their lives to reviving it was our brother Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Nooh Najaatee Al-Albaanee “

The great scholar Muhammad Haamid Al-Fiqee (rahimahullaah) said:
“…the brother, the Salafee, the Scholar, Shaikh Naasir-ud Deen.”
The former Muftee of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Ibraheem Aali Shaikh (rahimahullaah) said:

“And he is the upholder of the Sunnah, a supporter of the truth and an opposition to the people of falsehood.”

During his lifetime, the father, the Shaikh, ‘Abd-ul-‘Azeez Ibn Baaz (rahimahullaah) said:
“I have not seen anyone under the surface of the sky with more knowledge of the Hadeeth in our current time than the likes of the great scholar, Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaanee.” And he (rahimahullaah) was asked about the hadeeth of the Prophet, sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam:
“Indeed Allaah raises up from this ummah at the beginning of every century someone who will revive it for them (i.e. a mujaddid).” So he was asked who is the mujaddid of this century? He replied: “Shaikh Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaanee. He is the mujaddid in my opinion and Allaah knows best.”

Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-‘Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) said:
“From what I came to know of the Shaikh through my gatherings with him – and they were few – was that he was very serious about acting upon the Sunnah and fighting against the innovations, whether in matters of Belief or in matters of actions. As for through my readings of his written works, then I have come to know that about him, and also that he possesses a vast amount of knowledge of Hadeeth, in terms of reporting them and investigating them. And Allaah has benefited many people through what he has written such as about knowledge, aspects of the Manhaj, and concern for the science of Hadeeth. And this is an enormous result for the Muslims, all praise be to Allaah.”

The great scholar, Shaikh Zaid Ibn Fayaad (rahimahullaah) said about him: “Indeed, Shaikh Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaanee is from the most prominent and distinguished personalities of this era. He had great concern for the Hadeeth – its paths of transmission, its reporters and its level of authenticity or weakness. This is an honorable task from the best things on which hours can be spent and efforts can be made. And he was like any other of the scholars – those who are correct in some matters and err in other matters. However, his devotion to this great science (i.e. of Hadeeth) is from that which requires that his prestige be acknowledged and his endeavors in it be appreciated.”

Shaikh Muqbil Ibn Haadee Al-Waadi’ee (rahimahullaah) said:
“Indeed, there cannot be found an equal in terms of the knowledge of hadeeth like that of Shaikh  Muhammad Naasir-ud-Deen Al-Albaanee. Allaah has given benefit through his knowledge and his books several times more than what has been accomplished by those zealots for Islaam upon the ignorance of those who organize reformation and revolutionary movements. And that which I sincerely believe in and which I owe my thanks to Allaah for is that the Shaikh Muhammad Naasir-ud- Deen Al-Albaanee is from the mujaddideen (reformers/revivers) whom the Prophet, sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, spoke the truth of when he said: ’Indeed Allaah raises up from this ummah at the beginning of every century someone who will revive it for them (i.e. a mujaddid).’

Reported by Abu Dawood and authenticated by Al-‘Iraaqee and others.”

Errors and Contradictions in the Bible

Today’s Bible when examined in the light of modern knowledge and science stands exposed to criticism. Why? Because there are so many flat contradictions, improbabilities and incompatibilities in its statements.

Certain passages of Bible are un-reliable. Others are whimsical where the element of truth is missing. There are other passages that are of fictitious nature. Still further there are events, which are either suppressed, or camouflaged or twisted to give another shade of meaning. At places there are two descriptions of an event contradicting each other.

At times they have used their own imagination to bring forward a certain point of view. They have put their words in the mouth of Jesus and they have made him say what various authors of Bible had liked him to say. Further there is a mountain of verbiage in the Bible.

Scholars say that today perhaps only twenty percent of Bible writing is Divine Related. The rest is all human writing. The difference is obvious. With the passage of time new versions of Bible keep Corning in and the older texts continue to undergo more and more distortions.

There are many versions of Bible of both Catholics and Protestants having their own 73 or 66 books respectively. There are- about seven hundred Bible versions and all are on display in London Museum. There is King’s James Version, Revised Standard Version, New International Version and American Standard Version etc. Today’s Bible remains no more the Word of GOD. It was written and rewritten in bits and pieces several times over a period of Last 3300 years and hence there is plenty of plagiarism, subtractions and additions as well. This we will see. We will take Testament ONE first and then we will take Testament TWO.

Why I ask people to become Muslims: Yahya George Maxwell

Many people have asked me, to tell them how I became a Muslim, and the truth is, I really didn’t know. I know now that Allah gave me mercy and let me become a Muslim.
About three years after I became Muslim, I received a phone call from my father telling me my mother was dying from cancer. I was told that if I wanted to see her before she dies, I should hurry. Unfortunately, she died before I got there.
I made a decision not to tell my family that I have become Muslim until I learn enough about Islam to explain it to them. I have regretted ever since that my mother died before I could talk to her. My father however is a different story.

When my father picked me up, I told him I had become Muslim. He had a look on his face like he wasn’t happy; then, he asked me: “Why?” I don’t know why I said what I said then; I told him it was his fault. He looked at me and said: “My fault?!” I said: ‘Yes, it’s your fault’, and he asked: ‘How is it my fault?’
I began to explain: ‘When I was a child, you use to tell me not to listen to other people, and to make my own choices; not to look at the color of peoples’ skin; not to care how much money they have, to judge people for what they do, not for what they say. So, that’s what I did. Nobody asked me to become a Muslim; nobody gave me any books, I studied the religion on my own, and I found it to be the Truth, and it’s your fault!’ He said: ‘Yes it’s my fault’.

Where is the “Christ” in “Christianity”?

Religious scholars have long attributed the tenets of Christian faith more to Paul’s teachings than to those of Jesus. But as much as I would like to jump into that subject, I think it best to back up and take a quick, speculative look at the Old Testament.

The Old Testament teaches that Jacob wrestled with God. In fact, the Old Testament records that Jacob not only wrestled with God, but that Jacob prevailed (Genesis 32:24-30). Now, bear in mind, we’re talking about a tiny blob of protoplasm wrestling the Creator of a universe 240,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles in diameter, containing over a billion galaxies of which ours—the Milky Way Galaxy—is just one (and a small one, at that), and prevailing? I’m sorry, but someone was a couple pages short of a codex when they scribed that passage. The point is, however, that this passage leaves us in a quandary.

We either have to question the Jewish concept of God or accept their explanation that “God” does not mean “God” in the above verses, but rather it means either an angel or a man (which, in essence, means the Old Testament is not to be trusted).

The Forged Origins of The New Testament

What the Church doesn’t want you to know:
It has often been emphasised that Christianity is unlike any other religion, for it stands or falls by certain events which are alleged to have occurred during a short period of time some 20 centuries ago. Those stories are presented in the New Testament, and as new evidence is revealed it will become clear that they do not represent historical realities. The Church agrees, saying:

“Our documentary sources of knowledge about the origins of Christianity and its earliest development are chiefly the New Testament Scriptures, the authenticity of which we must, to a great extent, take for granted.”

Az-Zuhd by Ibnul Qayyim Al-Jawzeeyah

“Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers-evil doers,) and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers good doers) whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.”

{Suratul Hadeed: 20}

Many have defined the meaning of Zuhd. I heard Ibn Taymiyyah say about Zuhd and (Wara’a):

‘Zuhd is to leave alone those things which will not benefit you in the next life.’ ‘And Wara’a (piety) is to leave the things you fear might harm you in the next life.’

And this so far, has been (one of) the best explanations, of the meaning of Zuhd and Wara’a.

Sufiyaan al-Thauri said about Zuhd:

‘Zuhd is to have limited amount of expectations (very few hopes); It does ‘not’ mean eating poor or inadequate foods as many think, or wearing a cheap gown or cloak.’

A Glimpse at the Way Of the Companions

This is the first treatise in a series regarding the Methodology of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and his Companions (may Allaah The Most High be pleased with them). It is the Methodology that was implemented by the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and adhered to by the best of generations (the Companions), giving them success in this world and ultimate success in the Hereafter. The series is entitled Tasfiyah Wat Tarbiyah which are the two main instruments of this Prophetic Methodology that can be used to help us to remain firmly established upon the Deen of Islam.
This treatise was written by Shaykh Abdul-Qaadir in response to the numerous questions that were posed to him and the general confusion concerning this important matter. In compiling this treatise the Shaykh relied upon classical works, due to the importance of returning to the understanding of the early scholars in this Ummah.
The treatise has been translated in an attempt to remove the confusion surrounding this crucial subject, concerning the methodology adopted by the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and his Companions (radiyallaahu ’anhum), in establishing Islaam as a way of life.
Every Muslim desiring to return to Islaam in its true sense, must grasp what the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and his Companions were upon, in all aspects of life. Only then can we move further towards establishing Islaam as our way of life.

This treatise highlights the main principles governing the correct understanding of this topic following the way of the early scholars in clarifying and expounding the Prophetic Methodology.
The treatise has been abridged in order to remove some of unnecessary technical terms, and also wherever necessary, clarification of some terms and points have been included. A glossary has also been added to assist the reader.

Rectifying false Notions on an Important Issue against Shaikh Muhammed bin Abdul Wahab

There is never a man who brings some goodness to this world but he has enemies among mankind and the jinn. Even the Prophets of Allaah were not safe from that.

The enmity of people was directed against the scholars in the past, especially the proponents of the true call (of Islam). They were met with intense hostility from the people. An example of that is Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him); some of those who were jealous of him regarded it as permissible to shed his blood, others accused him of being misguided and of going beyond the pale of Islam and becoming an apostate.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab was simply another of these wronged scholars who were falsely accused by people, in an attempt to cause trouble (fitnah). People’s only motives for doing that were jealousy and hatred, along with the fact that bid’ah was so firmly entrenched in their hearts, or they were ignorant and were blindly imitating the people of whims and desires.

What you should do in the following situations? Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid

The Muslim may be faced with a number of emergency situations in his life, where he needs an immediate answer as to how he should act in that particular situation. In most cases, however, it is not possible to look for or ask about the appropriate Islamic rulings at that time.

This proves the importance of learning about Islam and knowing the rules of sharee‘ah, so that when a Muslim needs this information, he will have it at hand and will thus be able to save himself or his Muslim brother from doing something haraam or making a mistake. In so many cases, ignorance can lead to corruption of worship or – at the very least – acute embarrassment. It is unfortunate that an imaam may mistakenly stand up for a fifth rak‘ah, and there may be nobody in the congregation or the mosque who knows what the rulings of sharee‘ah say should be done in such a situation. Or a traveller who is intending to perform umrah may come to the airport at the last minute, and suddenly discover that he has forgotten his ihraam garments, but he has no time to do anything about it, and there is nobody among the Muslim in the airport who can tell him what he should do in this emergency. Or a man may come to the mosque on an occasion when the prayers have been joined together because of rain: the congregation is already praying ishaa‘ but he has not yet prayed maghrib, so he is confused as to what he should do. In such a situation the people may embark upon a debate based only on ignorance, and so confusion will reign in the mosques. In many individual and personal matters, ignorance may lead to embarrassment and even sin, especially when a person is in the position of having to make a decision and he does not have sufficient knowledge on which to base that decision.

People in this world have prepared information telling people how to behave in emergency situations: what to do if fire breaks out, if someone is drowning, if a scorpion bites, if there is a car accident, if someone is bleeding or has broken a bone… All of these first aid procedures are well known; they teach them to people and hold special courses. How much more important is it, then, that those who are concerned with the Hereafter should learn and teach the rules of this religion!

The Advice (to Indian Salafis) Reviewed by Shaykh Wasiyyullaah ‘Abbaas

The three fundamental principle
The Advice

This advice is aimed mainly at two or three categories of people.

Firstly, this is an advice to those who are already affected by this fitnah, so that it may serve as a mirror to see their own faults, and they may then seek to rectify them by Allaah’s permission. We believe that there could be amongst them those who are sincere, but have fallen prey to this fitnah out of ignorance, so we hope for them that they are guided.

And as for those who choose to be stubborn and reject sincere advice, we warn them to fear Allaah and His punishment, as they are playing with the deen of Allaah.

Finally, this is also an advice to Ahlus Sunnah in general so that they can be aware of this danger that lurks within them; so that they can know the signs by which the people of this deviation can be recognized, and save themselves and others from falling into this fitnah, by Allaah’s aid an permission.
Important: The intent of this advice is to identify a problem/disease and to treat it in the best manner, and this is from having concern and mercy for one another. So let us look into our own selves and correct ourselves if required. And let us refrain from saying “so and so was intended by this advice”, as this kind of speech does not bring about benefit and promotes chaotic behavior.

Women around the Messenger

womenaround2

Indeed, the first person to believe in Allah as the Lord and in Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), as the Messenger and Prophet was his wife, Khadeejah (radiAllahu anha). She was the fist person to support the Messenger of Allah [sallallahu alaihi wasallam] She strengthened him, assured him and consoled him. She received the Prophet and his message with her big heart. After her, many women embraced Islam, not in compliance with their husbands’ will or out of tribal solidarity or in obedience to their fathers’ command. Rather, these women, in most cases, embraced Islam independently, out of conviction and in demonstration of their right of choice.
If there are men Companions, there are also women Companions. If there are ‘Men around the Messenger’ there are also ‘Women around the Messenger’.

One of the diseases of our contemporary age with all its achievements and setbacks, with its scientific breakthrough and cultural defects is that the woman has been turned to a ‘doll’ or something like a doll in all the senses of the word. I do not think that I have exaggerated in this.

Take for instance, the advertisement of any product in any of the mass media, the woman is disgustingly, cheaply and flimsily dragged into this advertisement even if the product is just the necktie that men wear. This is in addition to her being used as an instrument of sexual arousal.
This is just an example of how the woman has been reduced to a cheap commodity. There are other uncountable examples of this, facilitated through Satanic hands.
It is unfortunate this horrible disease has crept into the midst of the Muslims under the guise of cultural interrelation and in total disregard for our purity and distinguishing values and for many other uncountable reasons.

Characteristics of the Hypocrites by Ibn Qayyim

Characteristics of the Hypocrites
Characteristics of the Hypocrites

By Allah! How many strongholds of Islam have they destroyed;

how many fortresses have they rendered to ruin; how many signposts of Islam have they effaced;

how many raised flags have they lowered;

and how many seeds of doubt have they attempted to sow in order to uproot the religion!

Islam and Muslims have always faced trial and tribulation from them, wave after wave of doubts do they assault at it, all the while thinking that they are doing right,

Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.

Islam and Love

Islam and Love
Islam and Love

There are people in this age of materialism, who interpret love as a matter consisting of a lover and a bed. They have forgotten that there are other types of love such as love of Allah, love of His Messenger [sallallahu alaihi wasallam], love of parents, love of son and daughters, love of brothers and sisters, and finally love for the sake of Allah, which is preferred above all material wealth.

They have forgotten the types that are chaste and instead they chaste after prohibited love that leads to adultery, either in brothels or in any open space like the promiscuous generations of today, who know neither modesty nor decency.
